Position Summary

The Accountant will have strong analytical, technological, communication and organizational skills. Under the general supervision of the Assistant Controller this position is responsible for assisting in the daily operations of the Business Services Office, particularly in the areas of reconciliation, month-end general ledger processing, processing of journal entries, audit work paper preparation, and other related accounting operation activities. Responsibilities focus on problem resolution of financial issues and include providing responsive, effective customer service to the Dominican University campus community. Perform professional accounting duties involving the application of accounting theory, principles, and practices; research and analyze accounting records to identify and resolve errors; monitor compliance with federal and state laws, University policies and procedures, tax laws, and accounting standards.

Responsibilities Assist in preparing, maintaining, and recording Dominican University general ledger activities and journal entries. Prepare monthly statement of position account reconciliations in accordance with Dominican University policies. Develop strong understanding of Dominican University policies and activities. Work with team members, including Purchasing, Accounts Payable, Accounts receivable, Financial Aid, and Information Technology departments to ensure activities are recorded each month, accurately and are consistent with Dominican policies. Research account discrepancies and correct errors via journal entry and/or other administrative processes. Maintain fixed asset records, including reconciliations on a monthly basis. Manage all fixed asset inquiries. Coordinate, maintain, and train various campus constituents on the Purchasing Card and Out of Pocket program Perform daily banking activities (i.e., review of Positive Pay) Create month end accounting reports and applicable distribution thereof. Participate in and contribute in the financial audit process including preparation of various audit requests and inquiries Participate in Business Services staff meetings, including discussion of relevant policies and procedures, as well as planning and goal setting. Perform special projects as designated by the Controller or the Assistant Controller. Assist in developing and documenting internal control policies. Prepare, analyze, and report on tuition revenue allocations. Produce and distribute monthly Grant reports and invoices. Maintain Grant GL to ensure accuracy. Assist in processing procurement requests. Assist in tax return preparation Manage debt repayment schedule and transactions Prepare drawdowns of federal funds based upon disbursements Perform special projects requiring analysis of data as needed Prepares bank reconciliations Required Qualifications Bachelors degree in Accounting A minimum of 3 years general ledger or comparable experience Understanding of standard accounting/financial management principles, practices, and procedures. A candidate must have strong time management, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Proficient in Microsoft Word. Direct experience in accounting software. Strong experience in providing customer service and problem resolution. Ability to prioritize and assume ownership of responsibilities. Works and collaborates well within a team environment. Results oriented with strong attention to detail. Ability to work with minimal supervision, yet must know when to ask for direction or clarification. Ability to prioritize and work well under pressure in a fast-paced and demanding environment, meeting multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines.
