The Cal Alumni Association (CAA) is seeking a Financial Data Analyst with quantitative analysis experience. Our Accounting and Finance Department is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial transactions, and for providing timely financial information in support of the entire Association. The Financial Data Analyst assists the Senior Director of Accounting and Finance in all aspects of department operations with a focus on using business data for accounting, financial, business, and operations analyses. The Financial Data Analyst duties include maintenance and analysis of financial and budget data from multiple business and payment processing systems in use at CAA, and the use of databases, Excel Automation using Visual Basic, and other tools to produce accounting transactions using data from these systems. The Financial Data Analyst will streamline accounting operations and help CAA comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, CAA policies, procedures, and contractual obligations. The position does not supervise but will advise other CAA staff on business processes, accounting, and operations. The Financial Data Analyst reports directly to the Senior Director of Accounting and Finance.

FINANCIAL PLANNING & ANALYSIS RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with the preparation of budget, forecasts, and accounting transactions.
Prepare and author presentation decks, executive summaries, and other documentation in support of executive meetings and management decision-making with quantitative exhibits including graphs, charts, and explanatory text.
Track and report on monthly and Year-To-Date comparisons between actuals, forecasted, and budgeted amounts. Prepare variance analyses that combine financial and operational data to explain business performance to a finance and non-finance executive audience.
Meet with CAA managers on a regular basis to update business plans, gather budget assumptions, and refresh financial forecasts.
Transfer data between various business systems utilized by CAA by exporting and importing data files in Excel, CSV, XML, text, and other data formats. Review data for integrity and hygiene.
Write business documentation including detailed process documentation, and other documentation as simply as possible while maintaining conciseness and accuracy.
DATA ANALYSIS & ACCOUNTING RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation on all CAA business applications that generate or contain data utilized in the production of accounting transactions.
Documentation will include but is not limited to business process workflows, data flow diagrams, Responsibility Assignment Matrices (RACI), database diagrams such as Entity Relationship Diagrams, and written business processes.
Collaborate with Information Technology personnel and CAA technology vendors to gain an understanding of all applications used by CAA that affect accounting transactions or are used to create or store accounting transactions including the General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and other systems. Become a Subject Matter Expert on these systems from a data and accounting context and advise the Accounting Team on matters that affect accounting and financial planning.
Create accounting, finance, and business operations process documentation. Train and support other CAA personnel on following these processes. Monitor the business for compliance.
Assist the Sr. Director with the design of processes and policies to optimize internal controls over the accounting and CAA operations using a risk-based approach, and accounting, audit, and industry best practices.
Utilize data from CAA information systems to create accounting transactions including Accounts Receivable invoices, Accounts payable invoices, receipts, payments, account reconciliations, and other types of transactions as necessary to maintain timely and accurate accounting records, and for financial and business planning purposes.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare company tax returns and other required submissions including occupancy tax returns, sales tax returns, business property statements, and record the related accounting transactions.
Assist with preparation for annual financial audit by independent auditor.
Performs miscellaneous special projects, and other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, data science, physics, engineering, finance, or other programs with a focus on quantitative analysis.
Computer programming experience authoring programming code, documenting and commenting programming code, and installing computer coding tools.
Excellent quantitative analysis skills using Microsoft Excel and other analytical tools including databases.
Experience using Microsoft Excel and other software applications used for quantitative analysis. Demonstrate experience creating Excel VLOOKUP’s, pivot tables, conditional formatting, table and graph creation, and numerical formatting.
Experience using Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Slides to prepare presentations with quantitative exhibits including graphs and charts. Must be able to format slides with correct spelling, grammar and follow strict style and branding guidelines in preparing presentations.
Demonstrates high level reading comprehension of complex subject matter including the potential to read and understand contracts and other legal agreements, process workflows, and business terms and conditions. Must be able to translate business rules into algorithms and computer code.
Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to distill complex topics into clear and simple communications. Must be able to communicate effectively with a diverse audience including business leaders internal and external to finance. Must respond promptly and with an excellent level of customer service to requests for information and assistance from CAA personnel, Campus departments, and other relevant parties.
Strong work ethic, well organized with excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently. Professional demeanor with the ability to work with diverse groups of people. Must be able to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive data. Must be able to multitask and prioritize work to meet strict deadlines. Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends to support CAA and Campus-wide events in addition to assigned work-shift.
Must submit to and pass Consumer Report and FBI/DOB fingerprint background investigations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge and familiarity of the University of California, Berkeley, and the Cal campus.

SALARY AND CLASSIFICATION:
This position is classified as an at-will, full-time, exempt position. Pay range will be between $75,000 - $80,000 annualized, depending on experience, and is eligible to participate in company sponsored benefits.
