Now, let's talk about the role itself. We are looking for a dynamic individual to join the BW Team as a Shipping and Receiving Clerk located in our Pittsburg, CA headquarters. This role is in our collective bargaining unit (union).

The ideal candidate has a high level of energy, self-direction, accountability and has proven systems to foster a collaborative environment.

Pick and prepare orders for shipment, assemble cartons, and box products.

Construct wooden or cardboard shipping crates and pallets, and pack large components and systems.

Assist with receiving products shipped to the plant, including unloading truck shipments. Must be a qualified forklift operator.

Perform tasks related to the preparation, expediting, and dispatching of shipments; receive and check in raw materials, purchased stock, finished items, equipment, supplies, and returned goods.

Verify products to be shipped against shipping orders to ensure accuracy.

Receive goods and verify them against purchase orders or receiving slips for accuracy.

Instruct packers and craters on packing and crating requirements to ensure safe transportation for domestic and export shipments; check crating, locators, and pad protection; check carton seals and banding to ensure travel quality; inspect goods received for damage from handling and transit, and process damage reports.

Prepare shipment labels with customer names and destinations, handling instructions, and apply them to crates and cartons according to standard instructions, procedures, and customer requirements.

Work from shipping orders, shipping instructions, and regulations.

Prepare bills of lading and shipping reports.

Use a computerized system to interface with shipping companies like UPS.

Complete necessary reporting and quality documentation required for this role.

Contact truck carriers for pick-ups or route and dispatch company trucks to transport shipments to depots or local destinations.

Assign work and instruct material handlers, power truck operators, crane operators, in counting, weighing, and transporting materials in and out of the shipping and receiving areas.

Ensure that shipping and receiving areas are kept clear of materials to avoid impeding further arrivals or shipments.

Check off shipments, observe car, and truck loading operations, car bracing, and securing loads to ensure safe arrival.

Use measuring scales, weighing, and counting scales.

Perform general semi-skilled work using hand or power tools.

Vocational or high school graduate required with courses in industrial arts or business practices preferred

5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment

A balanced demeanor with a sense of humor

Excellent verbal, written communication skills

Able to sit for extended periods. Frequently required to walk, stand, lift, and reach, while performing job functions. Must be able to lift twenty-five (25) pounds.
