Job Description:JOB SUMMARY:The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety programs to ensure a safe and healthy work environment. They conduct risk assessments, inspect facilities, and provide recommendations to minimize hazards. Additionally, they may design and deliver training programs, investigate accidents or incidents, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards. This role plays a crucial part in promoting a culture of safety within an organization and collaborating with various departments to mitigate environmental and occupational risks.PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Acts as the EHS representative for the Business Continuity Plan/Disaster Recovery.

Participates in EHS budget preparation and tracking; establishing and monitoring progress toward company goals.

Facilitates EHS program objectives completion in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and environmental rules and regulations such as Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Toxic Substances Control Agency (TSCA), and the Clean Water Act (CWA).

Monitors developing environmental federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and risk initiatives and analyzes potential impacts on system operations.

Ensures timely environmental, health and safety support in the areas of regulatory compliance, compliance reporting (i.e. OSHA 300 log), industrial hygiene testing, EHS data management, enforcement action response, and regulatory agency mediation; maintains EHS files and records.

Supports the Corporate and Platform EHS program and direction; maintains and submits reports as required.

Coordinates and engages platform and corporate subject matter experts and/or external consultants in the identification, development and implementation of EHS goals which will positively impact and add value to the organization; manages 3rd party consultant scope of work/contracts as required.

Represents the organization at various industry associations, platform or corporate meetings through participation in meetings, on committees or task teams.

Plans, implements and trains site personnel on various EHS/Regulatory policies and programs, including, but not limited to safety practices, fire prevention, hazard communication, personal protective equipment, regulations and standards, and incident investigation.

Identifies and suggests corrective measures to improve each site’s accident rate and to suggest/implement means to achieve site EHS goals.

Conducts a facilities inspection to detect existing or potential accident, environmental and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative EHS measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.

Leads the investigation of incidents and injuries; cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.

Observes Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and established safety policies.

Oversees the administration of workers' compensation program for the organization.

Ability to work independently in a fast-paced setting, perform other EHS duties as assigned.

Provides Leadership in the 5S/4E EBS Tools. Supports all Kaizen’s as it relates to these tools. Works towards a Certified Practitioner designation in these DBS Tools.

Travels as needed. May occasional travel domestically and/or globally.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in EH&S or related field (science, engineering) preferred or equivalent experience.

3+ years EHS experience OR Associates Degree and 7+ years’ EHS experience is preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) and/or Certified Workers Compensation Professional (CWCP) preferred.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a good record.

Strong communication and negotiation skills and exhibited ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization.

Strong change and project management skills; demonstrated success managing projects that drive behavioral changes.

Working experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
