Biotechnology and the data sciences are advancing at blinding speed, opening immense new possibilities.We are looking for a R&D Technical Communications Sr. Manager to join our agile Research & Development Chief of Staff team. This role will support the creation of visual and creative content that highlights our capabilities and expertise in R&D, showcasing how our scientists are creating new innovations and why it is so important. Reporting to the Chief of Staff for Amgen’s Chief Scientific Officer (Executive Vice President, R&D), you will work with our senior leaders, scientists, drug developers, physicians, and business teams to produce content that is clear, compelling, and insightful. Your work will help elevate Amgen’s position as a leader in scientific research and innovation, generating excitement internally and externally.The ideal candidate is within, or willing to relocate to, commuting distance of Amgen’s global headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA. Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work closely with and support the CSO, R&D Chief of Staff, R&D Corporate Affairs team, and other key stakeholders in all aspects of your work
Map Out Presentation Objectives: Define objectives and create story boards for internal and external presentations given by Amgen’s CSO
Create Visual Content: Develop graphics, animations, and visualizations to communicate complex scientific and clinical concepts in an engaging and clear manner for a wide range of audiences (R&D all staff; board of directors; industry peers; academics; etc.)
Utilize Software: Work proficiently with tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) and scientific visualization tools (BioRender, PyMol, ChemDraw etc.) as well as generative AI image software to produce high-quality content
Manage Content Plans: Develop and support workflows, for deliverables with overlapping timelines, that follow proper review and approval process to ensure content accuracy, effectiveness, and message buy-in from, including protection of confidential information
Oversee Animations and Mechanism of Action Visuals: Manage the production of animations and mechanism of action (MoA) visuals to support R&D storytelling and education

Bachelor’s degree & 8 years of directly related experience
OR Associate degree & 10 years of directly related experience
OR High school diploma / GED & 12 years of directly related experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience: Proven experience in graphic design and visualization within the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or healthcare sectors
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and scientific visualization tools such as BioRender
Educational Background: Bachelor’s Degree in graphic design, life sciences, communications, or a related field
Communication Skills: Ability to work effectively with all levels of management, including senior executives and strong storytelling skills to translate complex scientific content into engaging visuals
Project Management: Meticulous, organized, and experienced in managing complex projects across cross-functional teams
Creativity and Innovation: Ability to think quickly, analytically, and creatively to accommodate a dynamic communications environment
Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills; enthusiastic team player and self-starter; serious commitment to hard work and excellence
