CDHSCareers Description of JobTHIS POSTING WILL BE USED TO FILL MULTIPLE FULL-TIME POSITIONSShift Times: Twelve (12) hour shifts available to include day and night shifts. Full-time employees are scheduled to work either 3 shifts in one week and 4 shifts in the following week, or vice versa.We are seeking an exceptional individual for the HCT III (Licensed Practical Nurse / Psychiatric Care Technician - MI) position within our facility. In this position you will provide a safe and therapeutic milieu, milieu management, taking measures to maintain patient/staff safety and to actively participate in programming on the assigned unit(s). Our ideal candidate is a caring leader who will provide professional skilled nursing activities in a mental health setting that include: acute care, chronic support, assessment, and interventions. Although this position will be assigned to a specific shift and unit, you may be required to work any unit.Under the direction of a Registered Nurse: The purpose of this position is to provide a safe and therapeutic milieu, milieu management, taking measures to maintain patient/staff safety and to actively participate in programming on the assigned unit(s). This position is a trainer of milieu management and safety. This position is a resource and is looked to for expertise in managing a milieu and the safety of a unit. This position is called upon when help is needed to problem solve issues with milieus across the campus. This position also provides unit searches, perimeter checks, ensures staff are aware of safety data sheets (SDS). This position is responsible for and to ensure and monitor the nursing care (both psychiatric and medical) is provided to all patients. This position advocates for patients. This position participates as a member of the multidisciplinary team, mentoring new staff and students, educating families and other community members, attending in-services and committee meetings. Utilizes Nursing Standards of Care (Colorado Psychiatric Technician Practice Act/Licensed Practical Nurse Practice Act)/Department of Nursing QAPI and goals. Provide immediate crisis intervention in the milieu and response to all emergency situations. Ensures containment techniques are performed correctly. Records and reports behavior and observations and refers to Registered Nurse for appropriate assessment. Participates in and leads assigned therapy sessions. Is assigned a patient load and is responsible as a primary one on one. Is responsible for reinforcing patient teaching. Involved with treatment plan formulations and reviews (if not, reviews assigned patient’s current plan of care formulation/review and signs). Initiates and utilizes precautions and restrictions pertinent to patient treatment and safety. If or when needed increase in any type of training/teaching, alerting supervisor for additional training/teaching. When noting that other staff might benefit from attending classes such as CTI/VDI again, alerts supervisor of the recommendation.Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

Position provides support in delivering psychiatric nursing care and therapeutic treatment by evaluating individual nursing care plans, administers and evaluates effectiveness of medications, health teaching, (including all aspects of illness management), and group and milieu treatment interventions.

Provide primary milieu management, crisis intervention, and patient teaching.

Perform medication administration and selected nursing procedures in the physical care of patients according to established policies and procedures.

Apply verbal and/or physical intervention techniques to diffuse behaviors.

Assesses psychiatric and discharge needs, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents treatment plans consisting of therapeutic interventions such as individual counseling, formal and informal treatment and teaching groups, and behavioral plans using nursing theory and concepts

Must participate in all Code 0, CTI, and fire drills as they occur

Attends in-service training to meet the educational and mandatory training requirements

Position will be required to work any unit in the hospital to meet the needs of business and will perform duties within the scope of their practice

Maintains nursing standards of care, follows nursing procedures/forms/form instructions/resource sheets/computerized trainings/nursing groups/competencies/addenda/staff training

Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Successfully pass all modules of the CMHIP New Employee Orientation core curriculum to include English reading comprehension, relevant competency assessments and written/practical exams in Defensive Tactics

Possess the physical ability to successfully complete CTI and CPR;

Lift arms above head and kick as high as own waist

Stabilize another person to accomplish a controlled containment to the floor

Withstand impact on own body using an ASP shield

Rotate body 90 degrees with feet planted for using a defensive tactic

Kneel on one or both knees and stand up again with multiple repetitions

Must be able to see and hear in order to observe, address and respond to potential breaches in safety

Seize, hold, control or subdue violent or assaultive persons and defend oneself or others to prevent injury

Demonstrate body agility, strength of all four limbs and the ability to walk and climb stairs consistently

Work in situations involving assaultive behavior, physical control of another person and/or restraint situations

Ability to read and comprehend the English language; effectively and fluently communicates in English, both verbally and in writing

Work in an environment with fluctuating noise and temperature (hot and cold) which may include working outdoors in inclement weather and/or concrete floor/wall work settings;

Willing and able to travel
