Summary The primary purpose of the position is to assist in the maintenance, repair, and stabilization of structures and sites built of stone and mortar. Responsibilities The major duties of the position Masonry Worker include, but are not limited to, the following: Responsible for the maintenance, repair, alteration, and construction of exterior and interior surfaces and structures of brick, stone and block. Repair and maintains historic masonry on buildings, parapets, fences, chimneys, walls, etc. Perform a variety of complex brickwork. Remove damaged portions of walls or other similar architectural features in preparation for repair or stabilization of historic masonry. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists), you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued driver's license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State driver's license. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. Physical Demands: Incumbent is frequently required to perform heavy lifting up to 50 pounds, unassisted. Occasionally with the help of others and/or lifting equipment, incumbent may be required to lift over 50 to100 pounds. Makes repairs from ladders, scaffolding and platforms, operates motorized equipment and uses hand and power tools. Incumbent is required to set up and break down scaffolding and platforms. Is continuously required to stand, stoop, bend, and kneel while working. Working Conditions: Most work is performed outside with exposure to all types of harsh weather conditions. Assignments involve exposure to dust and dirt while mixing mortar, screening soil, backfilling, and driving to and from outlying areas. Incumbent may be subject to cuts, bruises, insect bites, danger of falling when on ladder or scaffolding, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or when loading and unloading equipment and materials. Incumbent will be provided and will be expected to wear prescribed personal protective equipment. Some contact is necessary with chemical agents in the nature of cleaning fluids and preservation compounds, some of which are considered hazardous. Work with chemical agents will be conducted within approved manufacturer's specifications and in accordance with the unit's precautions. The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are NOT suitable for telework.
