Ames National Laboratory is a U. S. Ames Laboratory is the home of the Critical Materials Institute, a DOE-supported Energy Innovation Hub. We are seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate for advanced electron microscopy-based investigations of layered natural and synthetic clay minerals. This position relies on high-resolution electron microscopy imaging, diffraction studies and analytical investigations of low-Z and beam sensitive materials. Our systems include natural clays, micas, and related synthetic 2D platforms. The successful candidate will be involved in comprehensive dynamic characterization electron beam-sensitive materials, including the characterization in hydrated state, under controlled environment, and as a function of external stimuli. We are seeking applicants with hands-on experience using aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy (S/TEM), electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and focused ion beam (FIB) techniques. Required Minimum Qualifications:The candidate must hold a PhD in physics, materials science, chemistry, mineralogy or a related discipline. Ph.D. must be completed prior to the start date.Preferred Qualifications:
