In addition, you should submit a copy of your course schedule, printed from Wolverine Access, to Emma Houle at [email protected] .Course DescriptionChem 453 is an introduction to the concepts of thermodynamics and statistical mechanics, which are discussed in the context of biology and chemistry. The GSI should have expertise in the area of physical or biophysical chemistry and a strong foundation in biology, physics, and mathematics (math 215 - multivariable and vector calculus is a prerequisite for enrollment in the course).The GSI must be available to attend the lecture given by the lead instructor (MWF 11-12), and be available for assignment to any one of the three scheduled discussions (M 12-1, M 1-2, and T 12-1), and also available to proctor both scheduled midterm exams (10/8, 6pm-8pm and 11/19, 6pm-8pm) and the final exam (12/17, 4-6pm).ResponsibilitiesDuties include leading discussion and/or lab sections. Other duties include grading assignments, quizzes and final exams. Depending on the type of course a GSI is assigned to teach they may also be required to hold office hours. Duties vary depending on the type of course (i.e. lab versus discussion).Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or closely related field

GSI training in the UM-Chemistry Department

English proficiency, based on ELI-OET, where applicable.

Desired Qualifications

Master's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or closely related field.

LSA student enrolled in a graduate program

Additional InformationMust be willing to teach a lab class in-person.
