Research Lab Specialist AssocApply NowJob SummaryThe Department of Emergency Medicine is searching for a highly motivated Research Specialist to join the VanEpps Laboratory. The applicant will work closely with Drs. VanEpps and Asthana and other research staff in an established laboratory at the North Campus Research Complex as well as the Michigan Medicine University Hospital for data collection. Our research focuses on the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of life threatening infection. Our work includes in vitro, in vivo, and clinical research. Projects in the laboratory will involve work with human and animal specimens and biosafety level 2 pathogens.ResponsibilitiesLaboratory experiments will include the following techniques: Maintaining and documenting lab safety, general lab maintenance, autoclaving, preparation of stock solutions, bacterial and mammalian cell culture, running molecular assays (PCR, ELISA, microscopy, etc), and collecting specimens and data from patients. Unique to our laboratory is the design of parts for 3D printing for custom assay development. Participation in lab meetings and data presentation are expected. Must work effectively in a highly collaborative team environment, be able to communicate well, and keep clear records. Specific skills that are necessary also include ability to input and analyze data using common software programs. Other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
Past employment or work experience for no less than 1 year working in biology or biomedical research that includes DNA/RNA isolation, nucleic acid assays and PCR including quantitative PCR methods.
Previous experience in device design and prototyping including AutoCad or similar design software
Excellent organizational, data management, and analytic skills
Desired Qualifications
Master's degree in molecular biology, biochemisty, biology, or related scientific degree and 4 or more years of experience in a biomedical research laboratory.
Previous experience with mammalian cell culture, bacterial culture, DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, sequencing, electrophoresis, patient data and specimen collection, and microscopy.
The successful candidate will have excellent organizational, data management, analytical, and time management skills as well as strong enthusiasm for developing new skills and expertise.
Experience with experiment/assay troubleshooting and optimization is preferred. At least1 year experience in clinical assay development and optimization.
Work ScheduleFull time onsite Monday thru Friday at NCRC.
