Overview

Dreamstate Café is looking for a vibrant, grounded, and collaborative Sous Chef / Kitchen Manager to help lead our kitchen with confidence, creativity, and heart. This role is central to shaping the food experience at Dreamstate—from all-day café service to late-night vibes to occasional special events. We’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, community-oriented environment, brings strong culinary chops, and knows how to build (and nurture) a healthy, high-functioning kitchen culture.

You’ll work closely with our Chef to keep service flowing smoothly, guide an eager team, and help us bring Dreamstate’s plant-based, flavor-forward menu to life every day.

Responsibilities

Lead, support, and coach our kitchen team to maintain smooth service and a positive, collaborative environment.

Ensure consistent, high-quality food production and plating that reflects Dreamstate’s standards and style.

Oversee prep, cooking, and service execution across breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch.

Manage inventory, ordering, and cost control with an eye toward minimizing waste and staying organized.

Participate in menu development by bringing thoughtful, creative ideas that complement our plant-based approach.

Support catering and special events by coordinating prep, timing, and seamless execution.

Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen—upholding all food safety and sanitation standards.

Assist with scheduling, task delegation, and keeping communication clear and upbeat across the team.

Help reinforce Dreamstate’s culture of consistency, accountability, and hospitality-forward service.

Skills & Experience

Strong culinary experience, ideally with background in high-volume or all-day service environments; plant-based experience a bonus (but enthusiasm to learn is just as great).

Proven leadership and supervisory skills—you know how to bring out the best in your team.

Experience with catering, events, or large-scale production is a plus.

Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation practices, and kitchen best practices.

Confidence in inventory management, ordering, and food cost awareness.

Ability to stay calm, organized, and detail-oriented, even during busy stretches.

Clear, respectful communication style rooted in teamwork and consistency.

A genuine passion for good food, good people, and building something meaningful together.
