Read more: careers.bms.com/working-with-us .Position Summary:The Senior Director, Research Business Insights & Technology (RBI&T) Compute wil l be responsible for designing and implementing a modern research compute ecosystem based directly on the needs of our research community. This will require a deep understanding of compute architectures (cloud, on-prem HPC, network, large scale data handling, etc.) and an understanding of, and appreciation for, the scientific use cases that drive a modern pharma organization. Leveraging your passion for science and your deep technical expertise you will be charting the next generation of capability for BMS and inspiring your technology colleagues while advancing scientific discovery. Your ability to listen, execute, and inspire will all be critical to achieving greatness in this role.Key Responsibilities:

Work closely with senior computational leaders in the scientific community to understand the need of BMS research computing).

Partner with BI&T colleagues across a range of disciplines (Network, Security, Research, Core Compute, Data, etc.) to develop a plan that works within our environment.

Develop and implement a comprehensive vision for Research Computing reflecting the demands of the research community, the state of technology, and the constraints of our overall environment.

Work closely with the existing team to rapidly migrate from legacy, constraining structures in a way that enables the key needs of research and reduces our overall cost and support burden.

Build robust processes for the maintenance and refresh of the environment.

Build pathways to dramatically expand compute consumption within the scientific community in line with a desire to become more computationally driven across research.

Keep our environment on the leading edge of capabilities through a deep understanding of the current research technology landscape and direction of change.

Qualifications & Experience:

Extensive experience with modern compute architectures including at least two Cloud Service Providers (AWS, GCP, Azure).

Extensive experience with On Premise and Co-Located Research Compute environments including both CPU and GPU configurations.

A deep understanding of the design principles of High Performance Compute (HPC) clusters both on -prem/ colo and within cloud environments, including supporting tools and capabilities (schedulers, containerization, etc.)

A deep understanding of scientific consumption patterns for HPC environments and the unique demands of early research environments

Familiarity with the NVIDIA stack including Base Command, CUDA, DGX model, and the life science related supporting capabilities (BioNemo, NIMS, etc.)

Fluency in scientific research models and work patterns. Experience working at scale in a life science research capacity is highly preferred.

Ability to interact with research partners ranging from detailed technical engagement to working on strategy with senior scientific leaders.

Ability to develop and articulate a robust scientific computing strategy encompassing wide ranging urgent scientific needs and rapidly changing technical capabilities.

Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team of technical professionals.

A deep and abiding passion for science and a sense of urgency to advance our understanding of biology and disease.

The starting compensation for this job is a range from $250,000 - $313,000, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed.Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.Eligibility for specific benefits listed on our careers site may vary based on the job and location.
