Statement of the job: The University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) seeks applicants to fill the position of Facilities Maintenance Worker, CL1 (Custodial) dedicated to maintaining a clean and healthy environment for the campus community. This position performs tasks to maintain campus cleanliness, orderliness, and appearance, including assisting with exterior tasks such as snow removal and sanding building entrances and walkways. The work is carried out according to established policies, procedures, and standards. This position is an integral part of storm coverage and snow and ice removal to assure all buildings are clear and safe. Work Schedule: This is a full-time (40 hours per week), fiscal year position. A typical work schedule is Saturday through Tuesday, 6:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. This is an essential position at the University of Maine at Farmington, in which winter hours are weather-dependent, and the employee will be required to report to work during inclement weather and administrative holidays. Pay and Benefits: The starting rate is $16.79 per hour for a new hire or the appropriate transfer rate for a current employee within the Service & Maintenance (S&M) Teamsters Union Local #340 collective bargaining unit. Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Responsibilities are a representative sample:

Cleaning assigned rooms and/or buildings by following defined instructions.

Using cleaning machines and equipment.

Performing facility set-ups and take-downs as directed.

Monitoring materials and supplies of assigned cart or area, notifying lead workers and supervisor as needed.

Removing snow on sidewalks and around buildings using a shovel.

Utilizing equipment to perform seasonal or regular maintenance.

Adhering to safety procedures, including reporting mechanical and/or safety issues.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.

Ability to work occasional overtime, which may include occasional nights and weekends.

Ability to work independently and follow verbal and written instructions.

Ability to do manual cleaning and perform manual labor, including snow shoveling.

Ability to follow safety policies and procedures.

This can be a physically demanding position and typically requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Successful completion of a pre-employment physical assessment is required.With or without reasonable accommodation, must be capable of lifting and carrying equipment and materials up to 50 pounds frequently and/or exert 20 pounds of force to move objects; and must be capable of standing for extended periods of time and flexible enough for bending and reaching.
