What You Will DoLos Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) invites you to join our Engineering Services Fire Protection (ES-FP) team. Fire Protection serves as LANL's authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) for fire protection-related codes, standards, and recommended practices. This position will support the FP Operations Manager in support of Facility Operations, Emergency Response Support, and the LAFD Cooperative Agreement.This position will be filled at the Fire Protection Specialist 4 level.Fire Protection Specialist 4 ($92,300 - $151,000)As a Fire Protection Specialist 4 working with ES-FP, you will use your professional fire protection knowledge, skills and abilities supporting one of the largest and most diverse directorates at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Under limited direction, this position's primary role is assisting the Operations Manager leading team efforts in support of facilities and emergency response support at LANL. You will also perform the duties of the Operations Manager in their absence. As such you will coordinate team and fire department activities in accordance with and compliance of current LANL policies and procedures, NFPA codes and standards, DOE Orders and the Cooperative Agreement through best industry practices. Additionally, you will assist the Operations Manager with the implementation of the LANL fire protection program and assessment of issues, deficiencies, and corrective actions. Central to the above, you will need to provide resolutions to a diverse range of moderately complex problems where analysis of data requires evaluation of multiple factors; demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions; and ability to plan/schedule and or arrange own activities in accomplishing objectives. You will represent the Laboratory at other DOE laboratories and assist in representing LANL to federal agencies, the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board, and community organizations. You will develop reports and/or documents relating to the laboratory fire protection program and fire service issues and inquiries, and lead the team developing corrective action plans, mandatory reports and assessments.Additional requirements include:

Responding to unique, one-of-a-kind external/internal requests for information and/or documents relating to worker health and safety, fire protection, and loss prevention issues and inquiries

Serves as an audit liaison for the fire protection program and responds to inquiries from the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), the Inspector General (IG), Department of Energy (DOE), and/or Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB). Also assists management in responding to General Accounting Office (GAO) inquiries

Independently conducts fire protection program analyses, adverse impact analyses, extent of condition surveys and other special studies and proactively prepares options/recommendations for managements consideration

Lead the team in developing reports to meet management needs at all levels and in response to external inquiries

Serves as the lead liaison in developing fire protection and loss prevention performance goals and objectives for the institution

Adheres to and administer policies and programs concerning the laboratory fire protection program

Other duties as directed by management

What You NeedMinimum Job Requirements:Teamwork and LeadershipExperience working in a complex organization of diverse operations, combined with a demonstrated ability to function as a leader of varying teams.Operational FunctionsDemonstrated experience supervising teams with customers in fire protection disciplines with proven ability in reading and interpreting policy and regulation documents. Proven ability in providing professional guidance in interpreting regulations and policies to ensure compliance. Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining documents such as procedures, forms, templates, and/or plans.Computer Business SystemsDemonstrated proficiency in the use of common computer-based software, shared database applications (e.g. Microsoft Office, Adobe Products, Access, Outlook, Oracle, etc.).Communications/Customer ServiceDemonstrated ability leading professional communications and meetings with all levels of personnel, including external interfaces and management. Ability to provide consultative customer service to internal and external customers. Skilled written and oral communication that convey consideration for the unique needs of different audiences.Technical ExpertiseBroad expertise and unique knowledge of applicable federal worker health and safety laws, regulations, executive orders and DOE orders related to fire protection, loss prevention and worker health and safety. Extensive knowledge of the Laboratory's fire protection, loss prevention, and worker health and safety policies, practices and procedures. Strong analytical skills with ability to independently identify, anticipate, and resolve complex problems and make recommendations to management. Extensive experience with demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternatives, and recommending solutions to problems affecting the laboratory fire protection program. Demonstrated experience leading initiatives within safety management programs.Training/Certifications: Certified Fire Protection Specialist training certificate (if not current, obtained within 6 months of hire date).Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 12 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.Desired Qualifications:

DOE Fire Service experience

DOE Q-Clearance

Working experience with DOE Order 420.1C, DOE Order 1066, and DOE Order 151.1D

Working experience with NFPA 1660, Standard for Emergency, Continuity, and Crisis Management: Preparedness, Response, and Recovery

Experience leading teams in preparedness, planning, or emergency response to nuclear facilities
