Requisition ID: req55564 Job Title: Preferred Communities Child Protection InternSector: Child ProtectionEmployment Category: InternEmployment Type: Part-TimeOpen to Expatriates: NoLocation: New York, NY HQ USA Work Arrangement:Fully Remote Job Description The Preferred Communities (PC) program supports refugee and ORR-eligible populations with challenging needs that require special attention, including young adults without parents or permanent guardians. PC services include long-term and remote case management, health and medical interventions, mental health interventions, and social adjustment services. SCOPE OF INTERN WORK:With oversight from the PC Child Protection Program Officer, the PC Child Protection Intern will play a central role in assessing and supporting the needs of separated children served through IRC’s Intensive Case Management Program. They will assist with development of assessment structure, recruiting participants, and providing feedback and engagement to center minor needs throughout PC programming. Additionally, the intern will support mentorship programs for clients and evaluate the partnership through routine data collection from all participants. This position reports to the PC Child Protection Program Officer. RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist with the implementation of the UC/URM Needs Assessment. Provide support for mentors and mentees during their partnership. Assist with required documentation such as case-noting and case file preparation. Other tasks as assigned. LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

The intern will gain comprehensive knowledge of the Preferred Communities Program and familiarize themselves with the nuances of working with separated children and unaccompanied minors.

Through hands-on experience, the intern will cultivate problem-solving abilities, refine client services skills, and enhance their proficiency in intercultural social work.

The intern will acquire proficiency in refugee child protection, client engagement, and providing culturally sensitive support to minors, thereby delivering optimal assistance to a vulnerable population.

REQUIREMENTS:

A background in Social Sciences, Global Studies, International Relations, Sociology, or relevant experience working in Child Protection, Youth Programming, or with immigrant populations (including refugees, asylum seekers, unaccompanied minors, etc.) is preferred. Lived experience is a plus.

Completion of IRC orientation and successful completion of a comprehensive background check (Live Scan & HireRight) are mandatory.

Possesses a high level of cultural awareness and sensitivity toward vulnerable immigrant populations, with a dedicated commitment to assisting unaccompanied minors in their transition to life in the U.S.

Demonstrates effective communication skills and thrives in collaborative, cross-cultural environments.

Displays cultural competency, proficient communication abilities, and excellent interpersonal skills.

Shows enthusiasm for understanding the broader IRC mission, philosophy, global endeavors, and local initiatives.

Fluency in English required. Bilingual ability in one of the predominant languages of the local client base is desired.

Willing to comply with IRC volunteer and workplace policies.

This is an unpaid internship position. No financial compensation is available.
