GENERAL PURPOSE:The Library Stacks Supervisor manages all aspects of the River Campus Library (RCL) Stacks operations including supervising, hiring, training, evaluating, and scheduling the Stack Attendants. The Library Stacks Supervisor oversees processes for the retrieval and return of physical materials to the stacks throughout River Campus Libraries and leads and directs temporary and ongoing projects for stacks maintenance (e.g., materials inventory, shifting, and relocation and maintenance of signage) as necessary to improve collection usability. This position is responsible for generating and analyzing reports for collection management and shared print commitment activities and projects. This role communicates with users and staff across the UR Libraries to resolve collection issues and questions (e.g., missing and claims returned items, account inquiries, metadata issues, damaged materials, and shelving constraints). This position works closely with Patron Services, Metadata Services, Building and Technology Services, and subject liaison librarians.RESPONSIBILITIES:Supervision and Management

Supervises, hires, trains, evaluates, and schedules the Stack Attendants according to 1199 Union policies and procedures.

Develops and oversees ongoing stacks and collections maintenance workflows and procedures to ensure effective collection stewardship and user access to physical collections.

Collections Projects

In collaboration with the Director of Collections Strategies, manages routine and targeted projects for stacks maintenance including inventory, shifting, and coordinating transfers to UR Libraries off-site storage.

Coordinates and manages weeding projects with RCL subject liaison librarians, ensuring the responsible disposal of deaccessioned material.

In collaboration with the Metadata Operations Librarian, oversees shared print projects (e.g., EAST), including reallocation and transfers to the UR Libraries off-site storage.

Collaboration and Customer Service

Routinely collaborates within and across RCL departments, including:

Collaborating with Off-site Collections Lead to manage transfers to off-site storage

Consultation on Patron Services policies and procedures

Identifying and flagging issues with item records to Metadata Services

Coordinating workflow for missing and damaged materials and collaborating with subject liaison librarians, Acquisitions, and Metadata Services to replace or deaccession items

Customer Service

Communicates with library users (UR faculty, staff, and students) to resolve issues with library material, including missing and claims returned items and patron account inquiries

Collection Reporting, Inventory, and Analytics

Running and analyzing reports in Alma Analytics:

Generating shelf lists with circulation statistics for subject liaison weeding projects

Generating reports of missing items for review and replacement or deaccessioning

Running reports for shared print (EAST) collection analysis

Generating inventory reports with Alma API tool

Coordinating inventory projects in stacks

Running barcode lists in Alma API inventory tool

Generating reports for stacks crew to identify and remediate missing and mis-shelved items

Building and Security

Monitoring and reporting building and security issues in the stacks, including:

Routinely monitoring stacks environment for moisture, mold, or other conditions potentially damaging to library materials and reporting to the RCL Director of Building and Technology Services

Identifying unsecured entry points and reporting to Director of Building and Technology Services

Monitoring stacks for inappropriate patron behavior (e.g., theft or destruction of library property, behavior that disrupts other patrons or library operations) and positively communicating behavior expectations to patrons or reporting to Patron Services staff as necessary

Promptly responding to emergent conditions that threaten library materials and consulting on library disaster preparedness planning

Miscellaneous

Maintains currency with library functions, resources, practices, and procedures in collection and stacks maintenance.

Participates and contribute to RCL committees, meetings, and events.

Participates in projects and working groups that support the strategic and operational goals of the UR Libraries.

Other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience required

2 or more years in a supervisory, management, or project-based leadership role required

2 or more years maintaining library stacks required

Demonstrated experience managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders across departments preferred

Experience managing Union employees preferred

Experience in academic libraries preferred

Excellent customer service and collaboration skills required

Effective problem-solving skills and attention to detail required

Outstanding oral and written communication and interpersonal skills required

Ability to organize, direct, motivate, and evaluate performance of staff required

Demonstrated commitment to the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and access required

Ability to work with and analyze data using software such as Microsoft Excel and analytics platforms preferred

Familiarity with Library of Congress call number system preferred

Familiarity with integrated library systems, such as Ex Libris Alma preferred
