The department also advocates for policy change, awareness on the part of funding agencies, and broad inclusion of patient report in clinical studies, especially drug development trials. Because symptoms are subjective experiences, we believe that only the patient can truly know the severity, temporal pattern, quality, location and impact on activities and daily life that symptoms have - and that the patient's voice must therefore be heard.Key FunctionsProcesses tissues from rodents for further analysis.Plans and performs assigned experiments.Prepares tissues sections and performs immunofluorescence analysis.Analyzes protein expression by Western blotting.Isolates RNA and analyzes expression levels by PCR.Performs live cell imaging or electrophysiological recordings from neurons.Performs flow cytometry.Performs cultures of cell lines or primary cells.Assists with animal experiments and tissue collection as needed.Records and evaluates data obtained in accordance with methods requested and reports the findings to the PI.Coordinates ordering lab supplies.Trains research assistants, students, and new lab members in laboratory techniques.Other duties as assigned.EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.EXPERIENCE: Three years of experience in scientific or experimental research work.   • At Houston Methodist, the Research Assistant III position is responsible for providing senior level of research support that may include scientific writing and data analysis. Work could be performed in either a laboratory or office environment. Under minimal supervision, the Research Assistant III will perform a wide variety of complex tasks requiring practical understanding of scientific techniques and advanced knowledge of scientific theory. This position is expected to assist scientists, both independently and collaboratively, with investigative procedures. The Research Assistant III performs various assays, imaging experiments and other technical duties to assist with laboratory and/or department research activities and may be required to work with animal models and/or human subjects.
