Position Summary:

The Computer Lab/Student Technology Assistant Team (STAT) Program Specialist 2 provides oversight for District Computer Labs, Makerspaces, Design Studios, and the various STAT stations. Primary duties of the position are to plan, coordinate, and implement the operation of the Student Labs. The STAT Program Specialist will be responsible for identifying innovative technologies and presenting clear ideas while contributing to student success and helping to shape the future of student media and educational technology. This position reports directly to the District Computer Labs Manager. This position actively supports and engages in Pierce College’s goals for equity and inclusion to provide access and support for our diverse community of learners and our goal of becoming an anti-racist institution.

Essential Functions:

Lab Staff Lead/Direction

Assist in recruiting, hiring, and training part-time lab and multimedia employees using approved procedures.

Develop work schedules and make appropriate assignments for employees; monitor and approve work hours for Time and Leave Reporting.

Recommend discipline and termination of employees, if necessary.

Supervise the lab/multimedia centers/STAT (Student Technology Assistance Team) stations throughout the campus through direct observation and by monitoring procedures per established customer service and security guidelines.

Student Support & Program Coordination

Display a deep understanding of cultural diversity and a willingness to learn from others, fostering an inclusive environment through open and honest interactions.

Establish meaningful connections with students, acknowledging their unique experiences, and recognizing their individual strengths and aspirations.

Provide personalized guidance and ensure exceptional support by actively listening and engaging with students.

Lab and Staff Planning

Monitor student technology use and assist in development of a plan to meet user's needs.

Monitor staffing needs for labs/multimedia/STAT stations.

Research and identify innovative technologies, strategies, and equipment.

Assist with preparation of Student Tech Fee or Service and Activities budget requests.

Track budget expenditures for all funding.

Research and Development

Research latest technology trends and management styles to stay current with continuous process improvements.

Support implementation of fresh new strategies as it relates to student technology.

Student/Staff/Special Program/Faculty Support

Assist and coordinate with library personnel to maintain and support media equipment including audio/video devices and peripherals.

Provide assistance with paper and toner needs for student technology.

Support ESL, College Success, other Learning Resource Departments and college programs.

Participation in Shared Governance and Other Duties as Assigned

Serve on campus-wide committees to support and advance equitable student success to the greatest extent possible.

Required Education:

Associates degree in any field of study OR equivalent years of experience working in supervisory positions in computer labs, media, instructional support, business management, information technology departments, or a related field. For an associate's degree, the equivalent work experience is two (2) years.

Required Experience:

Experience working in computer labs, media, instructional support and/or information technology departments.

Experience providing customer service in a fast-paced environment.

Supervisory skills to include coaching and mentoring to support employees in achieving the college mission and their professional goals.

Special Requirements:

Intermediate computer skills and multimedia experience:

Microsoft Office Suite and Office 365: Word, Excel, Outlook,

PowerPoint, both stationary and mobile apps.

Internet/Canvas: Ability to utilize the Internet and Canvas to

support the STAT program. Some experience with cloud apps –

Google Drive and MS One Drive.

Multimedia: Hands-on experience with a variety of digital media,

including but not limited to computer programs and software; digital

imagery, digital video; video games; web pages and websites,

including social media; data and databases; digital audio, such as

mp3s; and e-books.

Job Management: Ability to manage one’s time and priorities to ensure assignments are completed in a timely and effective manner.
