Library Technical Assistant II/Weekend Desk Assistant (13542)The WestVirginia University Library is seeking applicants for a Library TechnicalAssistant II for weekend desk assistance. The required schedule for thisposition is Saturday 9:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. and Sunday 9:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.This position has sole responsibility for the library, circulation desk,building operations and patron safety during these shifts. Due to the nature ofthis position, circulation desk service/patrons services are a significantportion of the incumbent responsibilities. The incumbent is responsible for the delivery of library servicesincluding operation of the circulation desk, respondingto users' questions and complaints; instructing users in basic electronicdatabase searching (when the Research Services personnel are not available); andtroubleshooting problems with the photocopiers; printers; microformreader/printers; and Pharos Print system. They will also supervise student assistant assignments including deskservices, and stack maintenance activities.In order to be successful in thisrole, then ideal candidate will:Openand close the library. Prepare the cash box before opening, verify amounts incash drawer, and record the information on the appropriate ledger.Utilizethe WMS Integrated Library System for charging/discharging library materials;creating or editing user records; creating a brief item record and bar-codingunlinked items to be taken out; searching the item record in the circulationmodule or in the online public access catalog (OPAC) to verify status.Respondto patron basic inquiries, in person and on the phone.Demonstrate,and instruct the user to use various types of equipment in the libraries(copier/printing/scanning system, wireless laptops, and microformreader/printers).Assistusers with troubleshooting library hardware, software and technical questionsfor library supported software applications.Processoverdue fines and reconcile the funds with receipts for that time period inaccordance with library guidelines.Participatein the overall training of new student employees as requested by the AccessServices Library Associate.Operatethe public address system to make closing announcements, emergency, or othernecessary announcements.Willopen the building early or stay late to accommodate the special event(s) forthe Evansdale Library.Participatesin the access services unit 24/7 operation every semester during Finals week.During this time the incumbent may work late or early morning shifts toaccommodate this operation. During break week and holiday shifts the incumbentwill need to modify schedule to match operational hours of the facility.Actas secondary back-up for the mid-evening supervisor Sunday from 6 p.m. - 2 a.m.in even of an unforeseen absence or may be called on to substitute in both deskassignment and assigned tasks for other members of the team for vacations orwhen someone is sick.Incoordination with the Access Services Library Associate, participates in stackmaintenance activities and special projects as needed. This includes but is notlimited to regular monitoring of student assistant assignments by checking thecorrectness of shelving and shelf reading. Pay Grade: 12QualificationsAssociate's Degree in a related field or equivalent combination ofeducation and experience.
