The department of Facilities and Services at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Campus Service Worker Lead.
About the Opportunity
The Campus Service Worker Lead functions as a team leader to provide a variety of support services in order to maintain the interior appearance of institutional buildings and the exterior appearance of the grounds surrounding these buildings. This work involves adhering to established standard procedures, techniques, and safety requirements. This position will assign, and direct work assignments as operational needs dictate.
This position will be required to work various shifts that will include evening shifts and weekend shifts. Scheduling may be subject to frequent change.

What You\'ll Do
Cleans and maintains the interior appearance of all buildings including classrooms, offices, laboratories, student housing, public areas, etc. by sweeping, mopping, stripping, and waxing, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, rugs, and upholstery; dusting and polishing furniture; washing and cleaning walls, ceilings, doors, windows, etc.; and performing other related internal cleaning activities. Will operate all floor care equipment. Cleans and disinfects bathrooms and kitchenettes including walls, floors, lavatories, commodes, sinks, refrigerators, stoves, fixtures mirrors, etc. Replenishes supplies including toilet tissue, towels, and soap.
Assists the management team in overseeing, guiding, and assisting campus service workers in completing their operational assignments. Assists in training new employees. Function as a team leader in meeting the operational needs of the department to include the following: inspection of facilities, submit work orders, monitors adherence to departmental policies, assists in inventory of supplies and their distribution, assist in record keeping, building security.
Cleans and maintains the exterior appearance of assigned area to include sweeping, raking, snow removal, and use of a hand-held leaf blower.
Collects and properly disposes of trash and litter throughout institutional buildings
Operates various hand and power tools to perform daily tasks, such as dollies, hand trucks, power washers, etc.
Locking and unlocking buildings, offices, classrooms, and meeting rooms as directed by supervisor.

The Department of Plant and Soil Sciences within the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design at West Virginia University is seeking applications for an Assistant Greenhouse Manager.
About the Opportunity
This position will assist the Greenhouse Manager in operating the greenhouse, plant growth chambers, walk-in coolers, plant collection, and freezers as well as managing student workers. The Assistant Greenhouse Manager reports to the WVU Greenhouse Manager and assumes the responsibility of the manager in their absence.

What You\'ll Do:
Manage the greenhouse facilities (the greenhouse, plant growth chambers, walk-in cooler, and freezers).
Monitor the heating, cooling, humidifying, watering, and venting systems for proper maintenance and operation of the controlled environment facilities. When necessary, perform or supervise repairs on the aforementioned systems.
When requested by researchers or as needed, fertilize, propagate, weed, and irrigate in the plant collection.
Scout disease and perform pest management application, properly handling and storing pesticides.
Under the Greenhouse Manager\'s approval, assist faculty in research projects.
Maintain records of supplies and materials such as pesticides, growing media, plant materials, and equipment for greenhouse facilities.
Document greenhouse utilization and issues. Present potential solutions and recommendations for improvement.
Provide care and maintenance of a wide variety of plants with varying growing requirements.
Assist the Greenhouse Manager and Director of Controlled Environments (DCE) in recruiting, hiring, and training student workers. Coordinate and supervise student workers for daily greenhouse operation (irrigation, fertilization, cleaning, and maintenance of greenhouse).
Respond to alarms and alerts after business hours, and report to the Greenhouse Manager in case of an emergency.
Collaborate with building department staff and University Facilities to ensure standard operations at nights and on weekends.
Assist the Greenhouse Manager or individuals in-charge with educational activities such as tours and workshops.
Maintain a positive working environment for our faculty, staff, student workers and greenhouse users. Communicate effectively and in a timely manner all important issues with the Greenhouse Manager, faculty, staff and greenhouse users.
