What The Role IsReporting to the Owner’s Engineering department, the Senior Owner’s Engineer is primarily responsible for managing 3rd party Independent Engineering engagements in support of renewable (Solar, Wind, and BESS) project financing and providing transaction-focused technical and underwriting support to Clearway’s project finance group and functional project teams. The Senior Owner’s Engineer will work broadly across Clearway’s organization and will create, manage, and maintain relationships with key technical consultants, financial counterparties, internal project teams, and others within the renewable energy industry. This role requires a combination of technical, finance, project management, and relationship management skillsets, as well as a strong understanding of industry and underwriting best practices.What You'll Be Doing

Providing/coordinating technical support to Clearway’s project finance team and other project teams.

Managing 3rd party Independent Engineers (IEs) to support project financing.

Coordinating with internal teams to provide the necessary documentation to the IE and/or financial counterparty.

Supporting IE and financial counterparty diligence processes and requests.

Drafting, negotiating, obtaining, and reviewing IE reports and certificates.

Working through technical issues and disagreements with counterparties.

Opining on questions of finance ability of equipment and contract terms.

Reviewing PPAs, EPC agreements, O&M agreements, equipment supply requirements, and other project documentation for technical risks and opportunities, and supporting technical aspects of contract negotiation.

Understanding energy modeling, commissioning, and capacity/performance testing.

Supporting technology valuation and selection decisions.

In all activities seeking to enhance/preserve project value while minimizing operational risks.

Other activities as assigned.

What You'll Bring

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, meteorology, or related field is required.

5 or more total years of relevant solar/wind/battery energy industry experience is required.

Understanding of renewables project finance and independent engineering practices.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with all levels of internal and external customers, including with banks, EPC contractors, consultants, and equipment manufacturers.

Ability to discuss technical concepts with both non-technical and highly technical parties.

Strong project management, document management, and relationship management skills.

Self-motivated, positive attitude, collaborative, willingness to learn and teach, and ability to implement corporate objectives at the working level.

Ability to excel in a dynamic work environment with multiple projects, priorities, and schedules to manage.

Familiarity with solar and/or wind and/or BESS origination, development, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, finance, operations, maintenance, and asset management.

Familiarity with typical solar and/or wind and/or BESS EPC contracts, technical exhibits, codes, standards, and best practices.

Familiarity with common independent engineers, lenders, and tax equity providers in the domestic renewables industry.

Microsoft Office and Excel expertise is required.

Ability to travel up to 10%.

What Would Be Nice

Previous experience working as an independent engineer is desirable.

Clearway will not sponsor nonimmigrant visas for this position (H-1B, TN, E-3, etc.).The pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on geographic location, skills, relevant and demonstrated experience, education, training and certifications, and other factors permitted by law.
