Estimator/ Project Manager Position

Mueller Construction Services, Inc. is a Heavy Civil contractor with emphasis on structures, but also occasionally acts as a GC building vertical construction. The position is in New Castle Colorado. The position is open to the right candidate who will work directly with the President to develop a backlog of work and assist with execution of work in progress. Estimator Responsibilities

Bid a sufficient amount of work to maintain a sustainable backlog to carry the company throughout the year. Duties consist of:

Research various web sites to look for projects to bid

Attend pre-bid meetings

Maintain a list of current and anticipated projects to bid

Notify bonding company of projects the firm intends to bid

Perform quantity takeoff from plans

Develop estimates from start to finish

Assist in establishment of database of historical costs

Solicitation of subcontractors and suppliers

Work with project managers to price labor, material, equipment, and subcontractors for change orders

Assist with project managers when need arises

Skills and Requirements

5 to 7 years with estimating and project management experience in the Heavy/Civil environment

Undergraduate degree in engineering, construction management or related

Broad understanding of construction practices and procedures for various divisions with emphasis on site work consisting of excavation, backfill, general earthwork and utility productivity, structures, and process pipe

Experience with conceptual estimates to detail estimates

Clear understanding of project contract documents

Strong organizational and time management skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Attention to detail and strong follow through; able to establish priorities and manage multiple tasks simultaneously with innovative problem solving and decision making abilities

Ability to learn various types of computer software

Some travel is required

Computer skills:

Required: Computer literate with HCSS Heavy Bid estimating software

Required: Computer literate with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Ability to manipulate files in AutoCad helpful but not necessary

Experience with earthwork volume calculation software is helpful

Familiarity with Microsoft Project Scheduling is helpful
