Controller / Assistant Controller

Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Controller/Assistant Controller to join our team in Monterey, California. In this role, you will oversee financial operations, offering leadership and guidance to accounting staff, while ensuring the integrity of financial data for both internal and external reporting. You will also work closely with department leaders to support financial decision-making.Key Responsibilities:· Contribute to the creation and refinement of financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.· Collaborate with department managers to interpret financial information and support informed decision-making.· Oversee the general ledger, including the processing of cash receipts, disbursements, accounts payable, and journal entries.· Ensure accurate and timely reconciliation of accounts, maintaining proper supporting documentation.· Generate routine and ad hoc financial reports for various internal and external stakeholders.· Assist in preparing schedules for the organization's annual audit.· Monitor bank accounts, ensuring proper transaction tracking and balance accuracy.· Reconcile bank accounts monthly to ensure alignment with the general ledger and other balances.· Support the preparation of the annual organizational budget.· Mentor department managers in understanding financial statements and in preparing their budgets.· Partner with department leaders to analyze costs and develop cost-effective strategies and processes. This is a great opportunity to contribute to a dynamic team while building a strong foundation for financial success across the organization.Requirements Proficiency in 3M, Accounting Software Systems, ADP - Financial Services, CRM, Crystal Reports is required Demonstrated experience in accounting functions including Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) Strong auditing skills with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail Solid understanding of budget processes, with the ability to plan, organize and manage multiple budgets The ability to interpret and analyze financial data and present it in clear and understandable terms Experience working in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to meet tight deadlines Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team Problem-solving skills, with the ability to find effective solutions to financial challenges A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is preferred Certification in Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) is a plus Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, statutes etc. that affect the company Ethical conduct and adherence to the principles of confidentiality and conflict of interest.
