This position will be responsible in aiding the Middle and Large Commercial (MLC) Equipment Breakdown Underwriting Director with underwriting referral support along with other tasks needed to expand EB underwriting capabilities. Being recognized as a technical expert in Equipment Breakdown underwriting, this individual will drive business results through performing referral underwriting account reviews, work alongside risk engineering, collaborate on guideline development, provide support for field underwriting and ensure file documentation standards are maintained for the Property and Inland Marine Equipment Breakdown portfolio.The right candidate will be responsible for providing referral underwriting decisions within your authority and making recommendations to the Equipment Breakdown Underwriting Director for risks outside your authority. The position will require internal and external communication in support of the MLC field underwriters. This position will report to the MLC Equipment Breakdown Underwriting Director and will be part of the MLC Property/Marine Chief Underwriting Office. Responsibilities:
Demonstrate superior underwriting expertise, high-level decision-making skills, and comprehensive business knowledge of Equipment Breakdown including (but not limited to) Renewable Energy and Heavy Manufacturing industry sectors.
Monitors and assesses the implementation of underwriting guidelines, service standards and operational efficiencies.
Collaborates closely with Underwriting, Product and Risk Engineering.
Leads or participates on underwriting audits as necessary aid in establishing the content of underwriting guidelines.
Rigorously analyzes underwriting information and assesses most complex risk within the framework of company standards.
Has a high degree of autonomous decision-making authority.
Serves as referral underwriter for assigned units or regions.
Assists Regional Office underwriters and managers in creating profitable solutions for customers and the company. Research emerging issues and make appropriate and timely underwriting responses.
Qualifications:
Typically requires 10+ years of Equipment Breakdown underwriting experience.
Must be a multi-dimensional team player who possesses strong product knowledge and underwriting expertise.
Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining solid relationships with all internal and external business partners.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
An ability to think analytically about business problems, make recommendations and propose solutions to meet the field underwriting team timeframes for quoting.
High energy self-starter, who is resilient and has an entrepreneurial spirit while also collaborating with others in the organization.
Demonstration of solid time, organizational, and desk management skills.
Goal-oriented and delivers outcomes.
Superior technical knowledge and sound decision-making and analytical skills
This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations will have the expectation of working in an office three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.CompensationThe listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
