Project Controller

Description Robert Half is in search for a Project Controller. Specific responsibilities may include:

Tracking budget and actual spend across relevant PO’s and project areas, including for various Advanced Research Project Agency – Energy (ARPA-E) government grants

Working closely with engineering team leads to understand project parameters and develop a framework to accurately cost and report on project deliverables and milestones

Utilizing activity based costing or cost accounting methodologies to drive comprehensive view of project spend

Must understand cost versus capitalization accounting rules in order to appropriately capture all capitalizable costs, particularly for fixed and capital project assets

Ensuring documentation is properly organized and maintained to support timely and accurate financial reporting

Performing capital cost estimations to determine total project size and scope

Preparing reports in a timely fashion to support company's monthly and quarterly close cycles

participate in reconciliations of billings and cash disbursements

Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as Sarbanes-Oxley and Defense Contract Audit Agency reporting standards to ensure a robust control environment exists in project areas

Engaging with business leaders to proactively advise and guide on risks and controls for new projects, programs, or initiatives.

Providing recommendations to cross-functional groups on vendor management best practices

Communicating thoughtfully and clearly to project managers and developing routine project review and approval processes

Implementation of time-tracking procedures across the engineering department as necessary

Updating contracts according to vendor or customer requirements and reporting associated budget amendments to relevant stakeholders

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or other related field

Minimum eight years of accounting experience in a public company setting

Experience with full cycle accounting

Advanced proficiency in managing general ledgers, journal entries, and account reconciliations

Exceptional ability to prepare project budgets and financial forecasts

Big 4 experience and CPA are strongly preferred

Strong working knowledge of Excel and NetSuite ERP

Participate in the planning of facilities changes for laboratories and equipment layouts Coordinate with internal business partners, architecture/engineering firms, Facilities Operations, and EH&S in developing, reviewing and approving design criteria, layouts and detail drawings. Work to ensure re-use of existing designs that have been permitted and inspected previously, and works with EH&S to maintain compliance with laws and local codes. Resolve issues related to design criteria and performance specifications required to meet unique operating requirements and building and safety codes. Review and estimate design costs including equipment, installation, labor, materials, preparation and other related costs. Inspect construction and installation progress for conformance to established drawings, specifications, and schedules. Participate in commissioning of facility or improvement and hand-off to lab owner and/or building operations.
