Landfill Emission EngineerRequisition Number: 54089Location: Boulder ColoradoEmployment Type: Research FacultySchedule: Full TimePosting Close Date: 22-Jan-2024Date Posted:Job SummaryThe Hannigan Air Quality Lab is seeking a Landfill Emissions Engineer who will work with a team of engineers and scientists on an EPA STAR grant to improve our understanding of methane and VOC emissions from landfills as well as the optimal approaches to measure those emissions. This Landfill Emissions Engineer will be part of a team that will assembly, deploy and maintain methane monitoring equipment at a few landfills in the US. The monitoring equipment will include a stationary network of sensor packages (each package will house an array of sensors) that measure ambient air concentration, a smaller network of movable dynamic flux chambers that use the same sensor array, and a pilot rover system that will measure surface concentration while traversing the landfill. The group is currently exploring community scale air pollution exposure and origins in Salt Lake City, Denver, and Los Angeles, emissions and exposure from prescribed fires, emissions and exposure from road construction, and emission from landfills. We all thrive on community, environmental problem solving, and time in the field. We value diverse perspectives and shared learning.What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Overseeing the assemble and deployment of the sensor packages.
Developing data organization and analysis procedures.
Coordinating activities with the other project research groups.
What We Can Offer
The hire rate for this position will be $25.00 hourly, paid bi-weekly.
Ineligible for benefits or vacation leave.
The Landfill Emissions Engineer will have the opportunity to work on an EPA STAR funded landfill emissions research project that incorporates 5 research groups as well as two industrial partners.

Be Boulder.What We RequireWe need a Landfill Emissions Engineer that is able to (1) use hand tools to assemble sensor packages, (2) serve as a point of contact with other research stakeholders, (3) deploy sensor packages on landfills, and (4) have some experience with programming, preferably Matlab or Python.What You Will NeedA successful applicant will have earned a BS engineering degree (or equivalent) that is related to environmental or waste management.Basic knowledge of the air pollution sources and fate, air pollution measurements, and solid waste management.Special InstructionsTo apply, please submit the following materials:
