Over 3,600 individuals from more than 120 countries study, conduct research, and teach at Georgetown. The Office of Global Services (OGS (https://internationalservices.georgetown.edu/) ) provides a wealth of services to this community, including immigration advising and cultural and educational programming. The Immigration Specialist (IS) position has three major roles - incoming student document issuance, incoming student advising, and administrative immigration support for alumni. Reporting directly to the Associate Director of International Student Services, the IS has duties that include but are not limited to: Incoming Student Document Issuance

Primary responsibility for Form I-20/DS-2019 issuance and SEVIS registration of low residency degree-seeking students.

Review Form I-20 and Form DS-2019 applications, perform currency conversions for financial documents, follow up with students missing required information, and prepare Form I-20 and Form DS-2019 drafts for DSO approval and submission to SEVIS.

The IS tracks the documents submitted and immigration documents issued throughout the admissions cycle.

The IS updates student biographical data in Banner based on information submitted in their immigration document request.

The IS works with the incoming international student OGS team to prepare ISSM templates for use in the admissions process.

Incoming Student Advising

Manage newinternational email inbox and respond to student inquiries in the newinternational email inbox.

Host student webinars to receive and respond to real-time student inquiries.

Prepare FAQs and responses to admissions inquiries and document issuance communications.

Dedicated advisor for incoming students.

Administrative Immigration Support for alumni

Process OPT requests.

Update Student Employment Information as needed.

Process requests for SEVP portal reset.

Requirements and Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree

2-3 years of administrative experience in a high-paced, professional environment

1 to 2 years of working knowledge of F immigration regulations

Must have U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residence to comply with the Department of Homeland Security Designated School Official requirements

Experience that demonstrates sensitivity to and acceptance of personal and cultural differences in people, and the ability to relate well to students from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds

Must have excellent computer skills

Possess organizational skills to track and implement varied bodies of knowledge and functions and attention to detail

Ability to express him/herself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

Preferred Requirements and Qualifications

Current DSO or ARO designation is strongly

Previous employment in an educational institution or an agency dealing with international educational exchange

Knowledge of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), Student Information Systems (e.g. Ellucian), and Immigration Management Software
