Position Details Position Information Recruitment/Posting Title ASSOC DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION AND STRATEGIC INITIATIVES Job Category Staff & Executive - Administrative & Support Department Eagleton Institute of Politics Overview The Eagleton Institute of Politics examines, analyzes and promotes discussion of the practice of American politics, and a thorough knowledge of that field is essential to carrying out the work of this position, both internally and externally. Given the leadership role in relation to education, this role requires demonstrated expertise in the scholarship and practice of teaching civic and political engagement as well as an appreciation of the civic and political engagement network in higher education and the nonprofit world. Thorough grounding in U.S. and New Jersey politics and government is essential, whether through academic experience, personal involvement, or both. Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Associate Director of Education and Strategic Initiatives. This position works in collaboration with the Director and the Associate Director on all educational efforts throughout the Eagleton Institute of Politics and beyond the Institute. As an institute of politics, teaching and learning involves both the scholarship and the practice of politics with educational efforts led by both political practitioners and scholars.Among the key duties of the position are the following:Responsible for synergizing these components and reimagining political learning experiences, so they meet the Institute's mission, core values, and learning objectives.Leads and shapes the curricula and teaching processes for all undergraduate and graduate courses taught within the Institute and by the Institute's faculty (including practitioners).Directs strategic educational initiatives and partnerships, including overseeing and administering all efforts to take the Eagleton Institute's educational efforts to the next level, ensuring that they are reflective of current and cutting-edge approaches to reach a broader audience and establish the Institute as a leader in teaching democratic engagement.Serves as the central location for faculty hiring and placement, providing support and mentorship to all those teaching in the classroom, collaboration across the Institute, professional development and pedagogical growth, and recognition within the Institute and across the University.The Eagleton Institute is a collaborative team. On occasion, all members are asked to participate in Institute-wide and/or cross-team projects. Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must also have extensive experience that encompasses political and academic worlds.Requires advanced knowledge of politics, teaching and learning and pedagogy, and civic engagement scholarship and practice.Must also have extensive experience in designing, implementing, and overseeing educational programs in higher education including curricular design and execution.Must have strong communication skills, the capacity to communicate to various constituencies and levels both within and outside the Institute and the University, experience in a leadership role in non-profit organizations or academic setting, experience supervising multiple employees and must have meticulous project management skills.Must be able to independently manage multiple tasks, short deadlines, often within stressful situations. Physical Demands and Work Environment Must be available to work evenings occasionally during the academic year and some weekends.Eagleton offices are located within a historic building with no elevator. The duties of this position regularly involve navigating stairs numerous times a day.
