Referral/Authorization Coordinator

Job Description: We are seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Insurance Verification Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Verifying insurance benefits and eligibility on all new referrals.

Performing monthly verification of DSHS coverage for long-term Medicaid patients and weekly verification for capitated Hospice patients.

Assisting in the evaluation of documentation to determine if patients meet criteria for therapy coverage.

Gathering necessary information to ensure accuracy and completeness of forms and reports; working with management and staff to correct omissions, errors, and office systems problems.

Creating Cost Disclosure/Advance Beneficiary Notices for Medicare patients and tracking signed forms.

Generating benefits letters to inform patients/responsible parties of financial responsibility and sending them to patients.

Entering new patient and physician data into the software database, including new therapy sessions for existing patients; entering ICD-9/ICD-10 codes as needed.

Obtaining PCP referral requests and following up.

Documenting appropriately in patient electronic records regarding payer/billing information.

Obtaining initial pre-authorizations as required by insurance plans.

Verifying physician licensure on an ongoing basis.

Supporting and incorporating the Sisters of Providence Health System Mission into daily activities.

Participating in QA/QI.

Performing Medicare Part D eligibility and drug formulary checks.

Preparing hospital charity agreements and sending and tracking patient financial assistance applications.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

One year+ reimbursement experience.

One year+ verification/insurance benefits experience.

Ability to type quickly and accurately.

Effective communication skills, both written and oral.

General computer knowledge and skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database software.

Knowledge of office equipment.

Knowledge of medical terminology.

Strong customer service skills.

Knowledge of medical reimbursement.

High school diploma/GED required.
