Powertrain Systems Engineer (Salary Range: $110,000/yr - $150,200/yr): Develop powertrain system and validate electric vehicle drive units. Write the vehicle, system, and component requirements related to Powertrain Systems. Responsible for the powertrain system design integration and validation of the system with an emphasis on safety, regulations, and vehicle performance targets. Develop and document cross functional strategies for pedal mapping, power limiting, regen and brake blending, stability control, and one pedal driving. Define the test conditions and the pass/fail criteria for subsystems. Manage the vehicle communication network database files (DBCs or double-byte character set). Design component and system-level test procedures. Assist in designing vehicle features and the interfaces between the vehicle controllers. Coordinate with manufacturing on electrical device testing and end of line vehicle testing. Manage deliverables to meet program milestones and support prototype builds. Utilize design failure mode and effect analysis (DFMEA) to recognize and evaluate potential systems, products, or process failures.

Telecommuting permissible within commuting distance of office located in Torrance, CA. Minimal domestic travel (5-10%).

REQUIREMENTS: Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field. 1 year of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Systems Engineer, or a closely related occupation.

SKILLS: Must have:

1. Experience with High Voltage System Design, HV batteries, electric motors and inverters in electric vehicles.

2. Experience working with vehicle electrical architecture and fault diagnosis for the vehicle’s powertrain system.

3. Experience with Vector Software Tools (CANalyzer, CANape, CANoe).

4. Experience operating HV Power Supplies, measurement tools (CAT III 1000v multimeter), and HV wiring.

5. Experience with Requirement database tools (Polarion, DOORS, JAMA).

6. Experience with vehicle communication protocols (CAN, LIN) and creating communication database files (DBC, LDF).

7. Experience with ISO26262 functional safety standard.
