Seating Engineer (Salary Range: $128,750/yr - $150,200/yr): Develop seating solutions concepts to support design of our EVs (electric vehicles). Deliver world-class occupant experience that meets global regulatory and consumer requirements, while cost and mass efficient. Work with specialized seating suppliers and identify how to have solution concepts evolve into a manufacturable solution that delivers a world class seating system for safety and quality. Design seating solutions and components using CATIA and the latest manufacturing technologies and feasibility execution to achieve systems requirements and craftsmanship and performance targets. Use computer-aided design (CAD) packages to develop ideas and produce seating designs, decide on the most appropriate materials for automotive seating component production, and build or support prototypes of vehicle seating solutions. Focus on the engineering concept and feasibility designing from concept to production, release, and launch of seating solutions. Support the generation and maintenance of a detailed Bill of Materials. Support the overall seating development milestones, prototypes, and production build events.

Some telecommuting permissible within commuting distance of office in Torrance, CA.

REQUIREMENTS: Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related technical field. 3 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Automotive Engineer, Design Engineer, or closely related occupation.

SKILLS: Must have:

1. Experience designing automotive seating using CATIA and the practices of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).

2. Experience designing to automotive legal standards including either the US FMVSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards) standards for crashworthiness (standards within the 200-series), or ECE (Economic Commission for Europe) standards relating to seating.

3. Experience with the advanced testing protocols used in the IIHS and NCAP systems of vehicle star ratings and implications to the seating system.

4. Experience with Design failure mode and effect analysis (DFMEA), Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R), and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) documentation.

5. Experience with Quality-related work practices and procedures, including APQP, PPAP, and Design for Six Sigma.
