  • Summary This position is being advertised for the Denali National Park and Preserve location. Open to the first 50 applicants or until 10/25/2024 whichever comes first. Responsibilities This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years, or more based on any changes to regulations governing the number of years term appointments may last, without further competition. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service. The National Park Service retains the right to extend the duration of this appointment after selection and/or appointment, based on changes to the regulation governing the number of years term appointments may last. This change, which may be made at the agency\'s sole discretion and without further competition, shall not be construed or interpreted as the granting of a right to a selectee or employee to such an extension. No extension to a term appointment shall be granted to a selectee/employee to an amount of time that exceeds the maximum number of years authorized under any present or current regulation, unless such regulation expressly allows such action. Major Duties: Develops audiovisual programs from inception to completion for Denali National Park and Preserve. Assignments may include long-format interpretive films and videos for theater settings, short video and audio programs for exhibit settings, interactive multimedia programs, soundscapes, audio tours, training videos, PSAs and online/digital media. Collaborates with park staff, project managers, multiple media professionals and contractors to prepare project scopes, schedules, budgets, staffing needs and strategies to satisfy NPS and park goals and objectives for interpreting sites and stories. Assists the Contracting Officer\'s Representative (COR) for contracted media products and services. Assists with writing scope-of-work statements, monitors contractor performance, and reviews deliverables to ensure projects remain on schedule, within budget, and meets stated communication goals and technical requirements. Provides technical assistance to the park regarding interpretive AV production development to ensure compliance with NPS policy and media standards. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver\'s license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator\'s License and Driving Record. This experience includes activities such as: Develops and produces original audiovisual productions involving multiple themes, some with complex subject matter; Applies of all phases of the AV production process, including pre-production planning, budgeting, treatment development, scripting, location and studio production, post-production editing; uses current trends, technologies and approaches associated with the development of effective AV products for museums, visitor centers and other interpretive applications; AV production and post-production capabilities and processes such as digital and high-definition video production, motion picture film production, nonlinear online editing, color correction, film-to-tape transfers, motion graphics, audio sweetening, interactive multimedia development, and web/digital media production; Ability to effectively supervise such activities by commercial production and post-production facilities and contractors. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Education must be in a field of major study that is directly related to the work of the position. Directly related coursework consists of commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in the position to be filled. You must include transcripts. -OR-Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL. M., (if related). Physical Demands: The work is principally sedentary and requires substantial use of computer systems. Preparation, review and critical assessment of written documents, technical drawings and audiovisual assets requires sustained concentration and auditory/visual acuity. Deadlines and conflicts associated with media project development may produce stressful situations. Travel within the park may expose incumbent to a varying range of temperatures, conditions, and physical exertion, much of which can be controlled by advance planning. Working Conditions: Work is generally performed in an office setting. Frequent travel to project sites, production studios, post-production facilities and fabrication shops is expected. Travel may involve exposure to extreme weather, rugged terrain and other unusual conditions which may present moderate risks or discomforts. The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
