Summary The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in Smithsonian Institution’s Office of Smithsonian Facilities (SF), Office of Facilities Management and Reliability (OFMR). The Office of Facilities Management and Reliability provides the full range of building services through maintenance and operational zones. Responsibilities The Facilites Service Leader performs a variety of duties to support overall facility maintenance. In this position, you will: Lead a team of three or more Building Service Workers/Facilities Services Workers performing tasks involving physical labor and equipment operations as well as performing general custodial duties. Check work in progress and when completed to ensure supervisor\'s instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met. Provide input to supervisor on performance appraisals and position descriptions and additional on the job training requirements for individual employees. Notify supervisor or leader of apparent defects in building and exhibit systems, such as, but not limited to, leaks, cracks, breaks, unusual smells, etc. as well as apparent safety hazards. Additional Requirements: Must be available to work late shifts, weekends and holidays and is subject to being called in for emergencies to restore the Smithsonian Institution to normal operations. Qualifications In order to be rated qualified, an applicant\'s overall experience and training must indicate possession of the minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the duties of this position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education Additional Information This position is included in the bargaining unit.
