AMHERST Camp Counselor POSITION OVERVIEW: Camp Counselors assist the Camp Director in implementing summer day camp programming. Responsible for creating a positive and safe environment for campers, and assisting in the planning and implementation of interesting and exciting educational and recreational activities. Forty (40) hours per week, Monday - Friday, beginning June 30, 2025 thru August 15, 2025. GENERAL DUTIES: Leads, guides and directs activities of groups of campers between the ages of 5-12 years of age, in compliance with required staffing ratios, for Amherst Recreation Fun in the Sun Camps. Responsible for providing safe and high-quality summer recreational day camp experiences and a positive atmosphere for campers. Works cooperatively with other staff to plan and implement interesting and exciting educational and recreational activities for campers. Works cooperatively with campers and any assigned Special Needs Counselors, in order to aid the participation of campers with special needs. Assists the Camp Director to maintain accurate participant attendance records. Completes and submits accident and incident reports in a timely fashion. Assists in identifying equipment and other materials required for camp. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be 18 years of age or older Certifications in First Aid and CPR Demonstrated experience working with children in small groups Ability to plan activities for and supervise groups of children. Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including patience, an outgoing and enthusiastic personality, and a willingness to serve. Must be available to work the entire 8 weeks of summer day camps (5 days a week) and attend a pre-camp training session day prior to the first day of camp. Counselors are also required to work part of the day/evening on July 4th. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Some experience in recreational planning and supervision.
