  • Summary The purpose of this position is to primarily accomplish industrial electronics and associated assigned electrical duties at the journeyman level. This positions is located within the Electrical Unit, Engineering Section of the Facilities Management Service at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit, MI. Responsibilities This position is responsible for performing installation, modification, preventative maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment, components, and complex systems which includes, but is not limited to, multiplex fire alarm system, electric track vehicle, systems (ETVS), computerized security systems, medical center radio paging system, CCTV system, variable frequency motor controls, nurse call system, electronic panic alarm systems, audio-visual receivers and recorders, televisions, and digital electronic equipment and components. Major duties includes, but are not limited to: Repairing, adjusting, modifying, installing, troubleshooting and inspecting systems necessary for the medical center\'s operation during days, afternoons, or evening shifts, weekends and holidays. Performing all installations, troubleshooting and preventative maintenance at a journeyman level for the facilities electrical, electronic, and medial gas systems. Installing, fabricating, maintaining, troubleshooting, analyzing, and making repairs to all of the electronic and medical gas systems and associated apparatus from simple to most difficult. Using guidelines, including, but not limited to, national electrical codes, national fire codes, national mechanical codes, local building codes, VA specifications, regulations, policies, procedures, programs, manuals, and other established guidelines. Reading blueprints, sketches, as-built drawings, manufacturers, instruction, brochures, diagrams, guidelines and schematics in order to perform repairs safely and to prevent injury to self and others. Installing electrical equipment such as conduits, junction boxes, fittings, cables, fixtures, switches, outlets and all components to make a complete working system. Operating a variety of electrical and electronic testing, metering, measuring devices, and testing equipment to help in locating and determining types of electrical malfunctions. Closing out all work orders on a daily basis to include documenting work performed and their work hours on work orders for job assignments and preventative maintenance. Performing repairs during non-duty hours on the essential electronic equipment breakdown on emergency call-in. Installation, termination and testing of low voltage cabling such as but not limited to, fire alarm, CAT6A, HDMI, coaxial.
