  • The Automotive Worker performs routine maintenance, preventive maintenance services, repairs and modifications under the direct supervision of a Mechanic. About the Position: Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas. The depot\'s enormous maintenance mission includes the repair, rebuild, overhaul and conversion of tactical wheeled vehicles. For more information on Red River Army Depot, go to the following web site: www.redriver.army.mil Responsibilities Makes classification/serviceability determinations, in process and final acceptance inspections of complete vehicles and their major components during the process. Performs visual, auditory, operational and dimensional inspections of complete vehicles including a wide variety of major components/systems such as large engines, transmissions, steering assemblies, electrical systems, power trains, etc. Exercises a substantial degree of inspection judgment when clearly defined inspection guides are not available. Investigates causes of critical or major defects and assures corrective action is taken. Working Conditions: Most of the work is done inside where it is drafty and noisy, and fumes from vehicles are usually present. Frequently stands on hard surface for long periods of time. Occasionally works outside, sometimes in bad weather. Must be licensed to operate all types of heavy mobile vehicles. During road tests is subject to road hazards and testing course hazards. Dirt, dust, and grease are frequently present. Vehicle fluids, such as battery acids and hydraulic fluids, may cause burns or irritate the skin. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts, bruises, shocks, burns and strains.
