What you\'ll do The Nuclear Medicine Technologist works under the medical direction of the Radiologist in charge and under the general supervision of the Nuclear Medicine Coordinator and the Medical Imaging Supervisor. The Nuclear Medicine Technologists’ primary responsibility is in Nuclear Diagnostic and Cardiology Stress lab on a rotational basis. Requests for occasional cross-coverage at other alternate network locations is possible; Providing both technical as well as providing prompt, efficient courteous service to our patients. In addition, this individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to assist the Radiation Safety Officer with reports, records, and statistical data for administrative and regulatory purposes for our organizations Radiation Safety Program. This individual needs to have the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and provide the care needed. To provide high quality test results in a prompt and accurate fashion. Explains scans and procedures to the patients to set aside fears; properly performs all Nuclear Medicine studies and records all data into the appropriate logs Performs SPECT scans in accordance to our established SPECT scanning protocols Ability to produce and store high quality images for the Radiologist before the official reading Performs protocol duties that include filing, logbook entries, and distribution of appropriate Nuclear Medicine documents Maintains appropriate record keeping for patient’s medical record, statistical information, radioactive utilization, and billing process Participates in quality assurance on equipment as well as other Radiation Safety issues. Checks instrument calibrations daily; performs quality control procedures daily on equipment and reagents Conducts ongoing equipment maintenance checks and if necessary, will call service engineer for repair. Orders isotopes, scanning kits, and exposure protection equipment Maintains adequate level of inventory for routine and emergency Nuclear Medicine scans. Maintains adequate inventory of isotopes, scanning kits and film Attends the necessary meetings to keep up with changes within the department. Attends monthly department meetings as recorded in the meeting minutes. Reviews meeting minutes when unable to attend, at the discretion of supervisor and coordinator. What you\'ll do Patient Observers are utilized as part of the hospital’s effort to promote patient safety and reduce patient injuries. Patient Observers are employees trained to provide direct observation, frequent re-orientation, verbal reminders and companionship to patients with identified risks to safety and to alert nursing personnel of patient needs. This program supplements nursing strategies for alternatives to the use of restraints, the prevention of patient injuries. Maintains a direct line of sight with patient at all times, including while family and/or visitors are in the room and during any toileting or hygiene activities (unless licensed clinical staff has noted otherwise). Accompanies patient and ensures patient safety during transportation, testing, and procedures occurring away from the patient\'s normal environment. Establishes a safe, risk-free patient environment by utilizing knowledge of fall prevention protocols, infection control measures, and self-harm prevention. Notifies clinical staff of any safety concerns, including but not limited to potential means of self-harm, falls, and/or patient interference with medical devices. Monitors the patient’s verbalizations and immediately informs the nurse if the patient expresses any idea or intention to hurt self or others. Floats to different patient care units. Creates clear, accurate documentation on patient status and activity during the shift. Participates as an active member of the health care team and positively promotes the rest of the team to patients/families/caregivers and other colleagues. Requests for assistance are promptly referred to nursing staff via the call light/intercom system. Ensures that the patient’s dignity is preserved. Validates that all specimens were transported appropriately and have been received, completing incident reports or other applicable reports when there is a variance. Completes all receiving steps following established Laboratory guidelines Receives the batch and/or specimen in the LIS, entering required information as needed. For tests that have not been entered into the LIS, enters all practitioner orders accurately. Delivers STAT, urgent or other specimens that are processed in the technical area in a timely manner Processes all specimens accurately, consistently relabels and/or aliquots specimens, maintaining specimen integrity.
