Research Assistant - RI Cardio Zhao Requisition ID 2024-53095 Category Research Overview A Research Assistant is immediately available in Dr. Mingtao Zhao\'s laboratory in the Center for Cardiovascular Research at the Nationwide Children\'s Hospital/Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. The Zhao lab is using patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, and functional genomics (single-cell genomics) to study the molecular and genetic mechanisms of cardiovascular development and congenital heart disease. Sucessful candidates are expected to perform human iPSC reprogramming and cardiac/vascular differentiation, and help PI maintain the routine laboratory management including writing IRB protocols, place lab orders, and coordinate with other labs in the Center for Cardiovascular Research. Candidates with experience in stem cell culture, organoid development, and CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing will be given priority. The Center for Cardiovascular Research currently has a NIH-funded T32 postdoctoral program to provide interdisciplinary, translational, and state-of-the-art research training in congenital and acquired heart disease, partnered with the Ohio State University College of Medicine. Responsibilities PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Performs research experiments independently or semi-independently in accordance with protocols approved by the principal investigator. Such experiments may involve the use of laboratory animals or human subjects any may require evening and/or weekend duties. 2. Prepares and tests substrate, conducts assays, and prepares tissue cultures for use in research studies, as applicable. Molecular work including Western blot, RT-PCR and immunocytochemistry as needed. Such activities may be performed independently and may require evening and weekend hours. 3. Ensures accuracy of laboratory analytical procedures as required by specific research projects. 4. Collects and controls experimental data and patient information; and maintains accurate daily logs of experiments including methods, results, and conclusions. 5. Interprets the results of data analyses with input from the principal investigator. 6. Assists the principal investigator in the preparation of scientific publications and grant proposals. 7. Make recommendations about refinement and/or replacement of laboratory analytical procedures. Implements such refinements or new procedures with input from the principal investigator. 8. Orders supplies needed to conduct research; maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; and assures that research equipment is in good working order. 9. Collaborates in the preparation of research budgets, and monitors expenditure of funds to assure that studies are conducted within budgetary constraints. 10. Description A Brief Overview The position is visible to clinicians with significant impact on patient safety, JCAHO, HIPAA, departmental and patient workflow. The Clinical Analyst II is responsible for independently providing major enterprise application configuration support as well as other applications as assigned to enhance operational efficiencies and patient safety. What You Will Do Performs needs assessment, software design, implementation, support, and reporting. Independently facilitates design of clinical workflow in conjunction with the clinicians; workflows will focus on improved efficiencies, solving complex workflow issues and incorporating quality initiatives. Coordinates and participates in unit and integrated testing activities of the software to ensure that the design objectives are met, including the development of testing scripts. Participates in change management activities to support successful system deployments and enhancements. Leads components of development of end-user training materials and participates in training efforts. Assists other team members in ensuring good documentation standards. Leads escalation of issues with appropriate internal resources. Identifies and analyzes moderately complex issues with vendor assistance and brings problem tickets to resolution.
