Summary The primary purpose of the position is to assist in the maintenance, repair, and stabilization of structures and sites built of stone and mortar. Responsibilities The major duties of the position Masonry Worker include, but are not limited to, the following: Responsible for the maintenance, repair, alteration, and construction of exterior and interior surfaces and structures of brick, stone and block. Repair and maintains historic masonry on buildings, parapets, fences, chimneys, walls, etc. Perform a variety of complex brickwork. Remove damaged portions of walls or other similar architectural features in preparation for repair or stabilization of historic masonry. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Is continuously required to stand, stoop, bend, and kneel while working. Working Conditions: Most work is performed outside with exposure to all types of harsh weather conditions. Assignments involve exposure to dust and dirt while mixing mortar, screening soil, backfilling, and driving to and from outlying areas. Incumbent may be subject to cuts, bruises, insect bites, danger of falling when on ladder or scaffolding, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or when loading and unloading equipment and materials. Incumbent will be provided and will be expected to wear prescribed personal protective equipment. Some contact is necessary with chemical agents in the nature of cleaning fluids and preservation compounds, some of which are considered hazardous. Work with chemical agents will be conducted within approved manufacturer\'s specifications and in accordance with the unit\'s precautions. The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are NOT suitable for telework.
