Summary This position is located in the Facility Management Division at Rocky Mountain National Park. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately April-October, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year (November-March). Responsibilities Performs parkwide sign maintenance, construction and repairs. Able to layout, construct, install, repair and maintain signs of various types and materials using carpentry tools and equipment and signmaking software and equipment. Constructs, installs, modifies and repairs interpretive and other devices including display cases, and cabinets, display bases, locking dispensers, plaques, exhibit bases and mountings, picture frames, etc. Constructs, maintains and repairs log and timber frame trailhead information kiosks. Will construct, maintain and repair backcountry signs and signposts. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver\'s license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator\'s License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver\'s licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 6 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Government housing may be available. Respirator fit test. Ability to lift 100 pounds. Able to operate and work within National Park Service used software systems, computer applications and email systems efficiently and with little supervision. Physical Demands: Moderate physical exertion is commonly involved with occasional lifting and carrying of up to 100 pounds. Will seek assistance to carry heavier items safely. Work requires considerable bending, kneeling, arm movement and work on ladders and in the digging of signpost holes in the field. Precise work requires long periods of standing and exercising fine muscle control. Hiking, carrying a backpack with supplies and materials up to sixteen miles on trails to repair and replace backcountry signs and posts. Working Conditions: This position will work in elevations that range from 7500 to 14,000 ft in elevation. Incumbent will be frequently exposed to inclement weather conditions while working outdoors which includes rain, cold, snow, heat, hail, lightening and high winds. Frequent exposure to dusty, steep, narrow and rocky trails for long periods of time. Work will include working in a carpenter\'s shop environment. Precise work requires long periods of standing and exercising fine muscle control. Incumbent is exposed to noise, sawdust, flying chips, splinters, cuts, bruises, strains and falls. Incumbent protects self and co-workers from hazards by using proper eye and hearing protection, respirators, a well-ventilated workspace and proper protective clothing as well as using all safety guards on machinery and maintaining them in proper working condition. Position will assist with snow removal operations in the winter season which will involve working in frigid temperatures and snow depths that range from an inch to multiple feet. Occasional overnight stays in the backcountry may be required due to the distance some signs are located from the trailhead.
