Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) Facilities and the Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 1 year 1 day. Term appointments may be extended beyond of six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years. Responsibilities Set up work and operate machine tools and perform bench and assembly work. Manufacture parts and items of equipment from raw stock of different kinds of metals and metal alloys and other materials. Operating Computer Numerical Control (CNC) and Numerical Control (NC) machines to perform standard machining operations. Plan and lay out work from blueprints, sketches, work orders, and/or model of parts to be made. Utilize shop mathematics and standard handbook formulas in making computations to establish dimensions not provided in oral or written instructions and specifications. Calculate mathematical computations and apply handbook formulas for needed dimensions. Mark surfaces and angles to be machined to facilitate accurate job setups. Decipher the machinability of numerous metals and the proper tools required to produce the desired cuts and surfaces. Apply knowledge of various metals and other materials to produce desired cuts and finishes on various metals. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Machinist without more than normal supervision. lathes, boring mills, milling machines, grinding machines and operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines to perform specific machining operation in the machining of castings, forgings, or other raw stocks made of various metals, metal alloys, and other materials. I can use a variety of auxiliary machine tool attachments; determine speeds, feeds, and coolants, lubricants, or abrasives to be used; and perform precision hand work such as filing, scraping, and lapping to fit, assemble, and finish machined parts. I interpret work orders or oral instructions accompanied by blueprints, sketches, drawings, sample parts, parts programs or other specifications to determine work procedures, materials, machines, tools, equipment, and attachments to be used during the sequence of machining operations. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: The work requires standing, stooping, bending and reaching; and frequent handling of objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally objects weighing as much as 40 pounds. Hoists, hand trucks, lifts and other workers are available to assist with heavier items. Working Conditions: Works in a well-lighted, heated and ventilated shop with concrete floors. Exposed to dust from grinding, oil from machines, dirt, heat, noise and fumes. Subject to eye and skin injuries from flying metal chips, abrasive particles and hot metal; skin irritation from contact with coolants, lubricants and abrasive compounds; and danger to the fingers, hands and other parts of the body from cutting tools, grinding wheels, rotating work pieces and moving parts of machine. Education Additional Information Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
