The Department of Conservation and Recreation seeks qualified applicants for the seasonal position of Seasonal Recreation Facility Supervisor I, Boat Launch Area. Duties Include: Boat Launch Area Supervisors are responsible for operating the Boat Launch Areas according to current policies and procedures. Duties include the following: collecting fees for boat and motor rentals, launching of private boats, explaining rules and regulations, answering general questions regarding the use of Quabbin for fishing, and conducting Quabbin Boat Sealing. Boat Launch supervisors direct rental customers in the safe operation of boats and may be called upon to search for lost boaters. Supervisors must complete daily routine clean-up and maintenance, maintain boats, and other equipment, assist in landscaping projects, and other duties as required. Qualifications: Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time experience in the maintenance and repair of recreational facilities, or in the recreational management, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below: 1. A certification, diploma, or degree as evidence of satisfactory completion of at least a two-year program in a recognized school above the high school level in building construction technology, electrical engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology, or mechanical power engineering may be substituted for the required experience. Education toward such a program will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed. Special Requirements: 1. Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) Certificate issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. II.   • The Massachusetts Department of Fish & Game works to preserve the state\'s natural resources and people\'s right to conservation of those resources, as protected by Article 97 of the Massachusetts Constitution. To carry out this mission, the Department exercises responsibility over the Commonwealth\'s marine and freshwater fisheries, wildlife species, plants, and natural communities, as well as the habitats that support them. MassWildlife is responsible for the conservation of freshwater fish and wildlife in the Commonwealth, including endangered plants and animals. MassWildlife restores, protects, and manages land for wildlife to thrive and for people to enjoy. The Department of Fish and Game, Division of Fisheries and Wildlife (MassWildlife) is accepting applications for the position of McLaughlin Hatchery Technician (Wildlife Technician II). The position is assigned to the McLaughlin Fish Hatchery in Belchertown, MA. Working under the direction of the Assistant Hatchery Manager, the Hatchery Technician performs a variety of routine semi-skilled tasks under limited supervision as assigned in connection with culture of trout at McLaughlin State Fish Hatchery, including propagation and liberation of trout, and maintenance of the hatchery equipment, vehicles, buildings and grounds. DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Delivers and distributes fish with a stocking truck to locations as assigned to release fish into the waters of the Commonwealth. 2. Observes and cares for raceway production fish as directed by hatchery manager and assistant manager. 3. Ensures normal water flow/aeration throughout the hatchery raceways, ponds and water distribution system. 4. Checks well/pipeline operation as required and cleans screens and other hatchery water supply sources as directed 5. Observes and reports abnormal fish behavior to mitigate potential fish losses. 6. Performs generalized maintenance and repair of the hatchery\'s buildings, grounds, raceways, vehicles, etc. as directed in order to keep the hatchery in proper and safe operational condition. 7. Records hatchery data as required, including water flow and well usage 8. Feeds hatchery stock each day following feed schedule provided by supervisor to promote maximum fish growth and pool cleanliness. 9. Spawns fish at other Division hatcheries when assigned to do so. 10. Cleans pools and raceway settling areas as required in compliance with state and federal permits. 11. Assists in the repair and re-construction of hatchery raceways and ponds as instructed by supervisor 12. Assists in the construction, installation and use of predation control devises as instructed by supervisor, to reduce predation losses. 13. Performs supervisory leadership of two Wildlife Technician II staff as needed; serves as work crew leader as needed 14. Works weekends and holidays as scheduled on a rotating basis to maintain a seven day a week operation; during weekend and holiday shifts serves as sole staff member on station. 15. Assigned to off- hour standby duty as needed/scheduled 16. Interacts in a proper fashion with the general public concerning inquiries related to hatchery operation. 17. Designated as emergency personnel and reports to work during weather emergencies as assigned 18. Performs related work as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED AT HIRE (List knowledge’s, skills, abilities) 1. Knowledge of hunting and fishing rules and regulations of the state 2. Knowledge of fish culture operations, fish biology and aquatic biology; basic knowledge of Fisheries and Wildlife Districts and Hatcheries 3. Ability to perform basic math and use mathematical formulas to record and analyze data 4. Ability to prioritize and manage personal daily workload. 5. Ability to determine how to approach a problem or perform a minor repair. 6. Ability to manage effective and appropriate interactions with the public. 7. Ability to operate heavy equipment, boats, and motors and use hand and power tools. 8. Ability to use a computer to enter data and produce written documents. 9. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. 10. Ability to maintain accurate records. 11. Ability to work independently. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 1. Skill in using small hand tools such as hammers, pliers, saws, screwdrivers, wrenches, as well as hand power tools etc. 2. Knowledge on operation and maintenance of water supply wells 7. Training on safe use of large equipment, hand tools and power tools, including chain saws 8. Knowledge of basic maintenance and repair of tools and power equipment 9. Knowledge of basic carpentry skills LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 1. Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator’s License, or equivalent, and an acceptable driving record.
