The Department of Conservation and Recreation seeks applicants for the position of Seasonal Bridge Carpenter - Forest Fire Control. Duties: 1. Fire Tower construction, maintenance, and repair; become familiar with all safety problems related to buildingmaintenance. 2.Assists with developing long range tower maintenance programs with Institutional MaintenanceForeman. 3.Completes all repairs and/or installations in a timely manner, adhering to Departmentstandards. 4.Tower Powerlines; Adheres to all safety guidelines in the installation, inspection and repairing ofpowerlines. 5.Erectsanddismantlesstaging,scaffolding,riggings,ladders,etc.usedtogainaccesstoorprovide support to structures under construction or repair. 6.Works onorwithmasonryinconnectionwithwoodworkingfunctionsincludingmixingandpouring concrete,preparingsurfacesforcement,operatingmasonryequipment,buildingformsandinstalling reinforcement rods and anchors. 7.Performs related duties such as cleaning and maintaining tools andequipment. 8.Climbing with spurs and/or belts and safety harnesses in excess of 80-100ft. 9.Installs antennas as needed on fire towers and free standing towers at heights in excess of80ft. 10.Works outdoors in all types of weather, responds when called upon to make emergency repairs at allhours. 11. Recordsofworkprogress,materialsandequipmentusedandtimelycompletionofworkunitpaperworkrequiredbyDCR policy and/or unit Supervisor 12.Performs related duties asassigned. 13. Responds and assists with search and rescue operations asneeded. 14. Responds and assists with fire suppression activities asrequested. Preferred Qualifications: 1. Knowledge of the principles and techniques ofcarpentry. 2.Knowledge of the types of buildingstructures. 3.Knowledge of the types and uses of materials used incarpentry. 4.Knowledge of the safety practices and procedures followed incarpentry. 5.Knowledge of the types and uses of safety equipment used incarpentry. 6.Knowledge of the types and uses of small hand held tools such as hammers, saws, screwdrivers, chisels, drills,etc. 7.Knowledge of the types and uses of tools used in carpentrybenchwork. 8.Knowledge of the types and uses of small measurement devices such as levels, rulers, steel squares,etc. 9. Knowledge of the properties and characteristics ofwood. 10.Knowledge of the types and uses of safety and/or climbing equipment such as scaffolds, ladders, rigging,etc. 11.Knowledge of the types and uses of hand held power tools such as power saws, power drills, power hammers,etc. 12.Ability to follow oral and writteninstructions. 13.Ability to read and interpret documents such as specifications, plans, blueprints, drawings,etc. 14.Ability to climb and work from ladders andscaffolds. 15.Ability to stand for prolonged periods oftime. 16.Ability to lift and carry heavyobjects. 17.Physical stamina andendurance. 18.Knowledge of materials, tools and techniques involved with the installation of both above ground and below groundpowerlines. 19. Knowledge of fire tower cabin construction. First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days. Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in carpentry, woodworking or cabinetmaking work or (B) the substitutions below. Substitutions: I. A diploma or certificate from a recognized trade, technical or vocational school at the high school level or higher with a major in carpentry, woodworking or cabinetmaking may be substituted for the required experience. Special Requirements: Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Rigger\'s License issued by the Department of Labor and Industries (Division of Industrial Safety) within six months of appointment.
